    Each week, the IDOA Division of Supplier Diversity recognizes certified vendors. This June, we would like to highlight Indy Staffing as a certified MBE. Congratulations Indy Staffing! John Thawnghmung was born in Burma. His parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and he migrated to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1980 as refugees. Four wonderful elderly ladies from the First Baptist Church sponsored his family and guided them through the first few years in their new homeland. He was a track & field state champion and football team captain during high school. John received his BS in Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Michigan. He has worked in the automotive and aircraft engine industry for over 25 years. After successfully launching a new manufacturing plant for a Fortune 500 company, he recognized that his deepest passion for helping others, especially helping immigrants settle in the US, had not been fulfilled. In 2019, John, his wife, and two children decided to relocate to Indianapolis to support the large Burmese/Chin community. After much exploration on how to support, he decided that helping job seekers find jobs and match with companies looking for great workers would be the best way for them to help the community. In 2021, they launched Indy Staffing on E. Stop 11 Rd, the heart of many immigrants. Not only staffing business, but John is also very active with the Southside community: Rotary club president, Chin Against Domestic Violence grant writer & advocate, and campaign manager. In addition, he serves at the food pantry and is always trying to find more ways to build bridges for first-generation immigrants to their new homeland.
