The Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Hal’s Fabulous Vegas Bar and Grille for winning the “Best Booth Décor” award and Smoke Eater’s BBQ for winning the “Best of the Taste” award at the January 31 2010 Taste of the Southside, presented by Community Health Network. The Chamber would also like to congratulate Chef Aaron O’Mara from Augustino’s Italian Restaurant for winning
“Best of Show” at the inaugural Iron Chef competition held during the Taste.
Taste guests voted for their favorite vendors; the awards went to the top vote-getters. Hal’s Fabulous Vegas Bar and Grille (www.halsvegas.com or 317-888-3427) played on their restaurant’s Vegas theme with Vegas-style memorabilia and fun. They also won the Best Booth Décor award in 2009. Smoke Eaters BBQ (www.smokeeatersbbq.com or
317-339-8406) won the crowd over with their Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork, Hash Brown Cheesy Casserole and Arnold Palmer drink. This was only the second year Smoke Eaters BBQ has participated in the Taste of the Southside.
The Iron Chef competition was determined by a panel of judges who evaluated each dish on plate presentation, flavor, portion size, and how creatively they incorporated the secret ingredients. Participating chefs had only 30 minutes to prepare a dish that incorporated a basket of secret ingredients revealed to them just before their time began. Chef O’Mara’s basket included beef tenderloin, fennel, smoked Gouda cheese, pistachios and a cantaloupe. Chef O’Mara created
Beef Tenderloin Roulades stuffed with caramelized fennel, crushed pistachios and smoked Gouda, set on a bed of fresh cantaloupe pasta (www.augustinosindy.com or 317-865-1099).
